What is the Science of Light
Therapy and how does it work?
Light receptors are located in cell membranes.
When light enters the cell, it is absorbed and converted into
chemical energy (ATP). The increased chemical energy is used
to repair and heal tissues and improve cellular function.
The science behind Photo Rejuvenation Light
Therapy science is used by major medical facilities and NASA.
Light emitting diodes (LEDs) were developed
by NASA to grow plants in outer space. Scientists have discovered
that the light emitting diodes also speed up wound healing.
LEDs emit infrared light at up to 880 nanometers in wavelengths
that are long enough to penetrate deep into the body tissues.
They can deliver light without heat, which means they are
safer than most lasers.
Normally, cells get their energy from the
food we eat, but cells can also use light to generate energy.
Because of their high blood and water content, skin layers
easily absorb red light. That means this technology is extremely
beneficial in treating problems close to the surface such
as wrinkles, age spots. broken capillaries, wounds, cuts,
scars and it has shown to be particularly effective in treating
infections. In the laboratory, muscle cells that are exposed
to infrared light grow 150 to 200 percent faster. In recent
years, scientist and clinical practitioners have found this
technology is unique in its broad application for a number
of medical and cosmetic abilities.
Several studies established that it is the
light itself (at specific wavelengths) that is therapeutic
in nature and not the machine that produced it. As such, there
is no therapeutic difference between lasers and LED therapy.
All biologic systems have a unique absorbed spectrum that
determines what wavelengths or radiation will be absorbed
to produce a given therapeutic effect. That is why the visible
red and invisible infrared portions of the spectrum have been
shown to have highly absorbent and unique therapeutic effects
in living tissues, particularly the skin, connective and muscle
tissue.
